What is Free AI?
Free AI is a web application that lets you chat with powerful large language models through Groq's infrastructure. You can ask questions, get help writing or reviewing code, brainstorm ideas, summarize text, translate languages, and much more — all from a clean chat interface in your browser. No account to create, no software to install.
How It Works
Go to the Chat Page
Click the Chat link in the navigation bar to open the conversation window.
Enter Your Groq API Key
When you first visit, click "Set API Key" and paste your key. It is stored only in your web browser — never on any server or database we control. It stays there until you clear your browser data.
Start Chatting
Type your question or message and press Enter. The AI responds instantly, just like a conversation with a knowledgeable friend.

About the API Key
Free AI uses Groq as its underlying provider to run conversations through a large language model. Groq requires every user to have their own API key — this is how they identify and bill users for compute resources.
We never store, touch, or see your API key. It lives exclusively in your browser's local storage and travels directly from your machine to Groq. You can set, change, or remove it at any time by clicking the key button in the chat header.
How to Get a Groq API Key
- Go to console.groq.com and create a free account.
- Navigate to the API Keys section in your dashboard.
- Click "Create Key" — you will get a string starting with gsk_. Copy and paste it into Free AI.
What if your free quota runs out?
Groq offers very affordable paid plans starting at just a few dollars per month. If you need more than the free tier, upgrading is simple and cheap — you pay Groq directly, never Free AI. There are also zero requirements to enter a credit card just to get started with Groq's free tier.
Groq offers free tiers for personal use. You only pay if you exceed the free quota, and you can set spending limits in your Groq dashboard to avoid surprises.
